Children and family work
Creating opportunity and enabling children and young people to learn new things, make new friendships and have exciting and challenging experiences is central to why HEALS invests so much time and energy into its children and family work.
Working alongside families in our local community, HEALS listens to what is required and supports parents to give their young people experiences that help them thrive into adulthood.
Over the course of the year, HEALS provides activity programmes, from crafts, to forestry, to camps; HEALS enables families to get into the spirit of Christmas with a trip to the panto and HEALS walks alongside on a daily basis as required, supporting through life's ups and downs.
Two comments HEALS received after its summer programme were
"The activities and being around other children their age and meeting new people they had so much fun. My daughter always loves the HEALS trips, she was super excited this year to have opportunity to make new friends she really enjoyed going on the high ropes and attending Cotswolds Beach. She also really enjoyed the rugby, the leader was so great at helping her understand everything."
"The children totally enjoyed all the activities they went to. They overcame some fears of trying new things like kayaking when they can't swim, made them realise you can still do things in water and you will be fine "
Working within our home community means we get to know people, we build relationships and we can provide appropriate support over the long term, not just the short. This can include working alongside our housing partners, as people's needs change, ensuring that they are receiving support from the government to meet their circumstances and being advocates where someone requires someone to help resolve a problem.
